Bump limit
From Bibliotheca Anonoma
Definition[edit]
The bump limit is the maximum number of times a thread on an imageboard can be bumped to the top of the catalog by new replies. Once this limit is reached, additional posts no longer affect the thread’s position.
Purpose[edit]
- Prevents a single discussion from monopolizing the front page.
- Encourages the creation of fresh threads and content.
- Helps manage server load by naturally phasing out older discussions.
Typical Values[edit]
Board | Limit | Notes |
---|---|---|
/a/ | 300 | Standard limit on most 4chan boards. |
/b/ | 500 | Higher limit due to board volume. |
/jp/ | 250 | Slightly lower to maintain faster turnover. |
After Reaching the Limit[edit]
Once the bump limit is hit, the thread enters Autosage, meaning it will no longer rise in the catalog but remains open for replies until it is pruned.
