About 20 minutes later the women I'd called walks in and tells me to come with her. We go into her office and she pulls out a stack of papers. About an hour and a half, 20 papers (one of which I'm fairly sure had me sign my soul away) and an automated background check later she tells me that we're finished and I can take Kaitlyn home - found out her name was Kaitlyn while I was signing the papers.

We walk over to her and the social worker starts to explain to her what's going on - but I stopped her. I knelt down in front of Kaitlyn and a few seconds later she looked up at me - tears running down her face, it about broke my heart. Anyway, I introduced myself and explained to her what was going on as best I could - I'm sure I did a fairly clumsy job of it. I told her she could come with me if she wanted to, or if she wanted to stay I'd come back and we could get to know each other a little better before she had to make any decisions. She looked me right in the eyes for what felt like minutes, but was probably just a few seconds and then slid off the bed...

So the social worker grabs her things - which was just a backpack with a few pairs of clothes - says goodbye to her, and wishes me luck. I thank her for coming in the middle of the night to help me out (that really was nice of her, don't have much faith in the system but at least some people still care) - and we head off to the car.

She took a change of clothes out of her backpack - I got her a toothbrush, towel and such and she goes into the bathroom. 15 minutes later she comes out half asleep. I only have one bed, so I figured I'd let her use mine for the night and I'd sleep on the couch. I get her tucked in and such, say goodnight. She says goodnight back, so soft I can barely hear her. - That was the first word I'd heard her say. - And I head for the couch.

I drove about 15 minutes to a small electronics shop and purchased some small pinhole cameras and cables. I hurry back home, and quietly open the front door. Kaitlyn is still asleep so I sneaked into the bathroom and set up the cams. I put one in the cabinet under the sink and another right under water tank behind the toilet.
