r/place was, like r/button, an April Fool’s social experiment created by the admins of reddit. Some similar patterns emerged, such as factions forming early on.

How it Works[edit]

Each reddit user is allowed to replace one pixel with a selection of colors. Once this has been done, the user can not place a new one until a timer has run out. Any user can select a pixel at any time and see who placed that pixel, and when it was placed.

Timeline[edit]

Record any interesting events that happened during the game.

Points of Interest[edit]

Ground Zero[edit]

Similar to the spawn area of the Minecraft server 2b2t, the center of this picture is a blasted no-mans-land.

Flags[edit]

A good representation of reddit’s global reach.

Messages[edit]

Factions (as of midnight EST, 2017-04-01)[edit]

Blue Corner[edit]

Bluecorner.PNG

The most powerful faction, covering the most territory of all the factions. They began in the bottom-right corner, and have spread both wide and far. As the largest faction, the blue corner was the first to encounter pixel art on its way to domination. Because of this, they were the first to adopt a policy of absorption, where certain pieces of art are safely kept within the faction’s territory.

Rainbow Road[edit]

The most widespread faction, Rainbow Road’s influence reaches from one corner of the field to another. It is unclear where they began from, but it was not along a wall. They also have a laser-like focus, which allows them to bounce their road off of the walls or images. They have also signed a non-aggression pact with the Blue Corner, allowing them to extend the road into their territory.

Green Lattice[edit]

The third most powerful faction, they are unique in that their lattice structure allows them to spread farther for the same number of pixels. They began along the right wall, approximately between the two corners.

Green Corner[edit]

A medium sized faction occupying the bottom-left corner, they are far from any fighting and thus are the most laid-back faction. Their subreddit is not filled with strategies or diplomacy, but with memes.

Red Corner[edit]

Occupying the top-right corner, they are the main competition for Blue Corner. Their corner is nearly 50% blue however, so they do not pose much of a threat.

Purple Place[edit]

The least powerful faction, occupying the top-left corner. This faction was originally a blue colony, with a blue road linking the two.
