DC Talk (stylized as dc Talk) was a Christian music trio from 1989 until 2000, and all three members (TobyMac, Kevin Max, and Michael Tait) have been doing solo projects since. This article is focused on their rare material.

History

DC Talk's rare material has surfaced online as early as the late 1990s on the main fansite of the time--ardent-enthusiast.com.[1] The fansite only released a few rare tracks and had an image gallery archive.[2][3] The website was active from 1997 until 2005, when the site went offline permanently. Their content has not been mirrored often either.

From sometime in the mid-2000s, people have moved on to other Christian bands because it appeared that DC Talk's "intermission" would not end. Lots of the band's material was left unsurfaced, and torrents with some of their rare material ended up inactive.

Starting at around 2012,[4] Kat started a DC Talk fansite (known as DC Talk Freaks), which is still the only active DC Talk fansite as of March 2017.

Sometime in mid-2016, dkl3 emailed Kat, where they communicated for a while. Eventually dkl3 suggested for her to create a forums for the site since DC Talk fans had no official forums to discuss on (and Ardent Enthusiast's forums were long gone[5]).

Kat agreed and eventually started the forums on September 6, 2016.[6] The forums were never that active, and Kat and dkl3 were the only two members who visited daily. Sometimes other members such as wildbill and Andrew (the other admin of the forum) would visit. As of March 2017, fashionicon is a new member on the DC Talk Forums, and also visits daily.

Since the forum's inception, numerous DC Talk rarities have leaked online (even higher quality variations of tracks posted on Ardent Enthusiast from back in the day[7]). Kat has posted most of the rarities but fashionicon has shared his collection in PM with dkl3 in March 2017, and dkl3 has been uploading the material to Internet Archive.[8].

dkl3 did make some contributions, such his bought copies of a few DC Talk VHSs and the Free at Last Movie in July 2016.[9][10] In March 2017, he made FLACs and 600dpi PNG scans of the Colored People single he coincidentally found and bought at a Goodwill.[11]
