News/2021-04-11 Desuarchive Migration
What's been going on with Desuarchive/RebeccaBlackTech for the past few weeks?
We moved to a new server. Our previous cloud provider was oversubscribed (an ongoing problem for years) which eventually became intolerable and got in the way of backup dumps.
Our search server is in the process of migration.
The new server will allow us to make database dumps more frequently.
What happened to RebeccaBlackTech?
The Bibliotheca Anonoma has operated RebeccaBlackTech.com/rbt.asia at the request of the domain owner for the past few years since their home server could no longer handle the strain of a growing 4chan.
During this server move, we renegotiated hosting terms with the RebeccaBlackTech.com/rbt.asia domain owner, who no longer wanted to operate a 4chan archive, but will maintain a domain redirect indefinitely. Therefore, we have integrated the boards into Desuarchive.
How's the progress on the new archival software stack?
The Bibliotheca Anonoma has built two drop in replacements in Python to replace the aging [FoolFuuka](https://github.com/bibanon/foolfuuka)/[Asagi](https://github.com/bibanon/asagi) archival stack.
- https://github.com/bibanon/neofuuka-scraper is in use at Desuarchive as part of this server migration. See the improved features over Asagi scraper in the repository.
- https://github.com/bibanon/ayase is a drop in replacement for the FoolFuuka frontend, check it out at our demonstration site: https://ayase.wakarimasen.moe. It is sufficient for non-ghostposting use, but we are still working on search and moderation tools and development help is appreciated.
Lastly, We hope to learn Rust to totally redesign the Asagi SQL schema. Two efforts are underway:
- https://github.com/miyachan/torako is a drop in replacement for the Asagi scraper. It is in testing at https://ayase.wakarimasen.moe .
- https://github.com/reasv/mitsuba is a full stack archive stack replacement and PostgreSQL schema redesign, most likely the best path forward past the aging Asagi schema.
