The university uses people in non-student short-lived wage positions to offer functional and staffing assistance to department managers who may need to work with temporary staff members. Temporary employees are "at-will" staff members, and appropriately, they or the university might end the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause.

If a non-student wage account is the most proper action, reasonable expectations are set related to turn-around time, proposed start date, per hour wage rate, length of assignment, and any other important factors to consider. Duration of Temporary Assignments


Non-student short-lived wage positions must be appointed for a short period. Non-student momentary wage assignments should not go beyond twelve months, with an outright optimum of eighteen months (as much as forty-two months is permissible for short-lived non-student research wage works with). If it ends up being needed to maintain non-research, non-student short-lived wage employee for more than eighteen months (or more than forty-two months for momentary non-student research wage works with), the department needs to submit a Demand to Extend Temporary Job kind to EEO prior to completion of task.

GW Temps is GW's staffing service produced to offer momentary personnel for departments throughout the university. GW Temps can recognize and fill a range of temporary roles including but not limited to administrative, monetary, and technical. As of January 1, 2019, departments are no longer charged an administrative charge for hiring temporary workers through GW Temps.


GW Temps will deal with you and your HR agent to find a suitable prospect for the temporary assignment and to ensure that the required documents is completed in order to hire your picked prospect.

GW Temps hired for short-term assignments are GW non-benefits eligible staff members except under relevant law(s).


GW Temps undergo a standard background screening. Non-standard checks, such as automobile checks, are performed based on the requirements of the project.


Conversion of GW Temps from Temporary to Regular Status


GW Temps are considered internal workers, and are eligible to apply to GW "internal-only" posts. In specific scenarios, active temporary workers employed through GW Temps are eligible to be employed as regular workers ("conversion") without needing a competitive recruitment process. This conversion procedure just applies if the person will remain in the exact same position that he/she was hired into as a GW Temp.
