- 2016-09-13 - Hiroyuki barges into a /pol/ meta thread, says something incomprehensible, and leaves[51]
- 2016-09-15 - Pikarifag goes to the #4chan IRC to ask ALTERNATIVE for help with the GR15 spam, he's rebuked and basically told /qa/ doesn't get moderation[52]
- 2016-10-01 - 4chan's 13th birthday and a lot of changes. A thread about the since4chanpass feature that lets users show how old their pass is has Hiroyuki appear to defend the feature.[53]
- 2016-10-02 - October Chaos - Old /qa/ ends here. Out of nowhere, Hiroyuki begins fearmongering that if 4chan doesn't make sweeping changes to monetization, the website is going to close down. He redirects discussion on the matter to /qa/, instantly putting the board on the map of all of 4chan and the extended chanverse. Within a week, /qa/ posting speed duplicates and the usual effortposting meta threads are hopelessly outposted by both off-topic shitposts and too many crossboard anons making demands to the site. Within months, several groups of shitposters and raiders make /qa/ their home, preventing the original board culture from ever returning.[54]

- This company is giving the free hosting or discount hosting for a time
- Using Stripe to process credit card payments
- Learning french
- 2016-10-13 - First asukaspammer crapflood[58]
- 2016-10-20 - Second crapflood[59]
- 2016-10-22 - And a third one[60]
- 2016-10-28 - Asukaspammer crapflood N° 4[61]
- 2016-10-30 - Hiroyuki Malicious Ad Reporting thread.[62] Highlights: (Reminder to always take Hiroyuki statements with a grain of salt.)
- Does not want to price users. Plans to subsist on ad money (likely failed, 4chan post 2016 almost certainly subsists on selling post data)
- The then-current Self-serve ad system, Rubicon, dropped 4chan from their client list
- The "ad team" is making their own self-serve system (likely MVB and Desuwa)
- Would like to get to Google Ads
- 4chan's host gives them special discounts (likely a lie to not disclose any number)
- Defended premium access, plans on putting the 4chan search and a thread archive on for pass-only access, and let pass users vote on potential future features. (obviously didn't take off)
- Implies jList operated at a loss on 4chan, calling them a "special advertiser"
- Clues that 4chan's devs may already be on payroll[63]
- 2016-11-03 -
- 2016-11-05 - Public ban. anti-anime.[66]
- 2016-11-08 - Electoral Riot
- 2016-11-10 to 16 - Questions Raid - The breakneck speed of /qa/ creates generalized chaos as the board gets several hundred threads, most composed of single line questions or inane statements. Accusations of raids get thrown around, but it is likely a shitpost bandwagon.[69]
- 2016-11-10 - Asukaspammer crapflood N° 7[70]
- 2016-11-11 - Winter Ball 2016 - The third 4chan Board-tans event arrived late with no board acting as official hub. Yet it was not dead: Multiple dozen threads popped out site-wide around November 11 in a larger volume yet with reduced activity. Compared to 2015, most don't make bump limit except for a select few boards. Multiple small dates are carried out by crossboarding drawfags with the /qa/ board-tans general acting as impromptu hub. The event lasts around a month, without an official end date, activity winds down to trickle just a few days before Christmas. At least a hundred new illustrations made and a strange drama with a kid who tried to force a design update on /qa/-tan occurs.[71]
- 2016-11-12 - Catholic Anon gets doxxed.[72]
- 2016-11-13 - First hints of a new demographic, /jp/ spinoffers, can be seen.[73]
- 2016-11-14 - Asukaspammer crapflood N° 8[74]

- 2016-11-25 - Someone got mad at swaglord, funposts ensue.[79]
- 2016-11-26 - Asukaspammer crapflood N° 10[80]
- 2016-12-01 - Public ban. anti-anime.[81]
- 2016-12-15 - Hiroyuki barges into a meta thread to support anti-jim watkins post and tell people /pol/ won't get deleted over bad threads[82]
- 2016-12-12 - A /jp/ meta thread about the moving of /djt/ to the board, generals and off-site links counting as advertising has an unexpected appearance of Anonymous-San, without his mod handle[83]
- 2016-12-17 - Firing of Anonymous-San - Anonymous makes a complaint demanding the unbanning of /pol/'s /diy/, a raid thread using fire safety regulations protocols to close down spaces[84]. A later poster asks for elaboration on part of the mods, to which Anonymous-San, famous as modcat, replies in his old format of using the warning form.
- 2016-12-18 - The outraged poster posts his warning revealing the usage politically loaded language.[85]
- 2016-12-19
- 10:30 EST - Asan is unceremoniously and permanently relieved of his moderator duties after a verbal beatdown by RapeApe.[86]
- The news breaks over #4chan IRC provoking outrage from basically the entire /a/ & /jp/ webspheres[87] and even within team4chan[88].
- 10:39 EST RapeApe, under the ## Mod handle, posts a sticky on /qa/ explaining his reasoning. [89]
- 2016-12-20
- Asan later pops in on the thread with intent to burn bridges with team4chan's new management. He explains what happened in detail, revealing considerable information on 4chan's inner workings and rousing /qa/ into a riot[90].
- 2016-12-21 - Asukaspammer crapflood N° 12[91]
- 2016-12-23 - Asukaspammer crapflood N° 13, shoe variant.[92]
- 2016-12-28 - Remove (You) Incident - Remove (You) Anon had his day.
- On a non-descript thread, anon manages to convince Hiro to disable (You)s, and on top of that, the Christmas hats.
- The entire site immediately flips it's shit.
- 2016-12-29 - Within a single day, a new poll feature is added to the site. 4chan passes are required to prevent rigging. The first poll apart from a test is whether (You)s should be re-added.
- 2016-12-30 - After the majority of pass voters determined that the removal of (You)s was negative, (You)s are returned. Users speculate that Hiroyuki planned this from the start as a scheme to get people to buy passes.[93]
2017
- 2017-01-09 - Asukaspammer crapflood N° 1X.[94]
- 2017-01-14 - Birth of the Spinoff Clique - A /jp/-themed thread complaining about meta on /qa/ appears, inciting anons that arrived since october anons to start pushing off threads by spamming threads and redicted meta discussion elsewhere on the idea of potentially turning /qa/ into 2D/Random, much to the chagrin of established regulars. Signals the genesis of a clique that would basically destroy /qa/.[95]
- 2017-01-15 - Earliest evidence of "/jp/" ghost bumping.[96]
- 2017-01-21 - Icemen Raid - "Icemen", a fad of liberal activists organizing off-site start using /qa/ as a public platform for their activities. Icing consists on reporting technically rulebreaking threads on /pol/, such as raid threads, as GR1 violations, on the assumption they won't be punished for it. The goal is disrupting /pol/ Projects such as He Will Not Divide Us. Confused to be a single poster by mane later raiders.[97]
- 2017-01-31

- Ghost bumping becomes the first known bumpbot, ran by asukaspammer with "rofl" text. Uses a script to bump threads of interest and reply to one's own post, then delete it. [100]
- 2017-02-08 -
- 2017-02-10 - Great "/jp/" raid of February 2017
- Date where a spinoff clique passes an invitation to visit /qa/ through all the /jp/sphere, chiefly involving /ota/, but eventually grows to include most active spinoff sites.[105]
- This materializes as in the form of spinoff related threads and random bouts of shitposting that last for months, backed by the efforts of the inviting clique that specifically targets meta threads. A number of spinoffers become part of this clique, or simply come to shitpost on occasion.
- /jp/ heritage shitposts start appearing by hand of the spinoff clique, and the bumpbot makes it's first appearance. [106]
- On an unrelated note, then 8chan /b/ mod and drawfag fugthelug starts trolling on /qa/.[107]
- 2017-02-11 - Suck My Cock Dude spambot appears, taking several threads to bump limit.[108]
- 2017-02-15 - End of the Icemen - Fake GR1 violation reports start getting banned. An iceman trying to explain their process to "/jp/" gets a public ban. Iceman activities rapidly fall off the site.[109]
- 2017-02-16 -
- 2017-02-19 - Creative variations of the SMCD bot.[113]
- 2017-02-20 - yotgo makes the infamous "Get Out of /qa/" marisa.[114]
- 2017-02-21 -
- 2017-02-23 - /qa/ gets flooded by black cocks, Elliot Rodgers and the /b/anana,[117] prompting a second bumpbot to appear using the text antispam bump.[118] Future instances utilized custom bump text, self-replying, 3-digit gibberish. Once posted, they are deleted a few minutes later.[119][120]
- 2017-03-03 - Admin of tonhochan makes an outreach thread.[121]
- 2017-03-06 -

- Barneyfag gets a public /qa/ ban after a days long stint on [s4s].[128]
- 2017-04-02 - April's Fools /int*/-Pony Raid - One of the parody boards, /mlpol/, is astroturfed by an /int*/-aligned troll Discord, managing to rouse some /mlp/ spammers back from hibernation. The board explodes into an all-out brawl between metaposters, off-topic colonies, bronies, spinoffers and altchans. cliques[129]

- A troll clique of autistics from an unlisted ancap 8ch.pl board referred to as [Board Redacted] are driven insane by the presence of a real woman, fugthelug aka spiderchan. For esoteric reasons known only to /int*/ culture, they are convinced to raid /qa/. The next couple months see raid conspiracies, miku avatarfagging, infographic dumps, attempts to dox fug and 30 thousand characters worth of incoherent rambling get posted on /qa/. This is enough to drive a couple #qa locals insane and accuse them of being behind the frogs.[150]
- Asukaspammer crapflood N° XX, reply to the raid.[151]
- 2017-06-07 -
- 2017-06-08

- 2017-06-16 - The real fugthelug visits /qa/ and dispels the veil of utter nonsense created by a month of raids.[159]

- 2017-07-31 - Hiroyuki releases an official search engine for 4chan. He announces it on /qa/ and asks anons to test it. It leaks posts from /j/ and /test/. It is disabled a few hours later and reenable at an unspecified date.[165]

- 2017-09-08 - A sakurafish thread got moved to /qa/. General confusion, and many /jp/ tripfags come out of the woodwork.[172]
- 2017-09-11 - Public ban on anti-anime thread. OP goes on a tirade on how everyone uses Reddit and pretends they don't, so reposting Reddit images is guaranteed replies; the thread then devolves to shitflinging between the weeb mafia and the frogs.[173]
- 2017-09-15 - Easter / Epic crapflood.[174]
- 2017-10-05 - #qa clique member Verniy posts a homemade ban logger.[175]

- ? & Anime crapflood. [184]
- 2017-10-23 -
- NeoGAF Incident (/qa/'s point of view) - Hiro read the news and visits /qa/, unaware that the topic was banned on /v/. After a brief exchange in one thread, he asks the mods to allow it back... on the /qa/ thread itself for some reason.[185]
- A series of stickies appear on /v/ with the first one unlocked resulting hundreds of posts mocking the mods. According to the stickies, NeoGAF discussion is to be held on a single thread.[186]
- 2017-10-24 - Listing of /qa/
- The mods didn't take Hiroyuki's interference well. The next day, without any explanation, /qa/ becomes a listed board. A blog announcement is made, the board HTML is changed, with an off-topic section reading [r9k / s4s / vip / qa]. Part of the reason seems to be to curtail the constant "Hiro-approved meta thread" spam and formalize Hiro's insistence on using /qa/ as meta, but the true reason is likely an affable excuse to move secondary threads akin to NeoGAF's from the hobby boards.[187]
- Everybody groans.[188]
- It's revealed the spinoff clique, called the weeb mafia by then, ran an IRC channel, #qa @ irc.sageru.org, the anonIRCd server of meltingwax of /jp/ fame. However nobody recognized the chat.[189]
- [s4s] mourns the loss of their brackets and their status as the only board on the off-topic section.
- Hours later, After struggling for a bit, Hiro makes a locked "welcome to /qa/" sticky saying that other than meta topics the board has "no specific theme". Mods ban honking on penalty of fine.[190].
- Anon honks anyways and gets a fine for his troubles.[191]
- Frogposters celebrate an early victory. Too early.[192]
- /qa/ (or #qa?) declares independence.[193]
- Anons on the Happenings thread discuss culprits behind [BR] raid, theorizing a small 8chan-news connection. fugthelug and the admin of chiru.no immediately come say hi. [194]
- 2017-10-26 -
- 2017-11-01 - A thread about ccd0's planned advertising of altchans on 4chanX gets a surprising visit by Hiroyuki, where he conformts posters over the switch and refuses to implement a 4chan-made CAPTCHA, arguing it will increase server costs.[198]
- 2017-11-04 - Winter Ball 2017 Fail - Board-tan fans learn on November that mods are suppressing Winter Ball threads by sending them to /trash/, and those that aren't fail to get traction with content creators. With the /qa/ Board-tans general lost months ago, organization is effectively gone. Anons try to organize a hub on /qa/ but it sadly putters out, with a few illustrations as compensation. Site-wide, there's little activity outside /bant/ and /qst/. This arguably marks the end of board-tans as general 4chan culture.[199]
- 2017-11-16 - The final form of the bumpbot is developed, now with the original japanese spellcard names.[200]
