Glove Guy radio interview
by /u/gloves_are_fucked
Hi folks, gloves_are_fucked here, OP of the glove guy post. I've been contacted to do a radio interview on the Sheldon MacLeod show. I'll be answering questions about my encounter at 2:15 on 95.7 if anyone's interested.

Edit: please see my comment below regarding witch hunts etc. I have no intention of starting a witch hunt, as I stated from the start. I agreed to the interview because it's an interesting story and it's an important topic.

loJohn 27 points 4 days ago
Seems like this is getting a little witch hunty to me.

Regardless of whats transpired, shouldn't this be a matter for the police instead of a half baked, literally half full of shit radio host that only the people with half a brain in this city take seriously?

UpvotingMyBoyfriend 6 points 4 days ago
Yeah this is why I asked if anyone reported him to the police in the original post. What he's doing is wrong by social standards but it feels rather unfair that this has escalated to the papers and radio interviews but no one is discussing their concerns with the police. It does feel feel vigilante.

loJohn 4 points 4 days ago
Yep, and unfortunately the internet gives people a soapbox when they sometimes shouldn't have one.

This just isn't the proper way to deal with this, if OP has such an issue with what took place.

BeastCoastLifestyle 1 point 4 days ago

Well in fairness, more people read reddit daily than read the Herald at this point. So his exposure here would be greater than newspaper articles.

CeeCeeOfficial 5 points 4 days ago
Yeah... I get that people feel the need to make others aware of the 'love the glove' guy (which is weird that it's getting so much attention now, he's been doing this for years). But if there is real concern, it should be brought to the police.

sackv 9 points 4 days ago
yep ... starting to feel bad for the glove guy.

loJohn 6 points 4 days ago*
Vigilantism based on anecdotal evidence (I understand a number of people share this experience) with no corresponding police investigation or involvement is asking for trouble.

Especially when OP doesn't seem to have made any effort to report this to the police whatsoever. If you have OP I apologize. but I can't find any evidence of it in your post history.

glorpchulDartmouth 9 points 4 days ago

In the CH story the police indicated they had not received any reports about glove guy. Although one guy in there claimed to have called 911.

loJohn 11 points 4 days ago
Found a comment from OP that indicates that no effort at all has been made to contact police.

Responding to a question if anyone has contact the cops about him:

I haven't, I've been thinking about it though. He didn't really do anything overtly illegal though as far as I can see, at least not with me. He is probably a known character at least.

So then why are we on the radio talking about this? 15 minutes of fame that important to you OP?

trafficrobot 3 points 4 days ago
I agree with you. Judging by the activity this situation has generated in this sub I'd say a lot of people here have boring lives and feel entertained by this.

Bone-Juice 3 points 4 days ago
While his methods certainly seem out of the ordinary, from the stories told in the threads about glove guy, it doesn't seem like he was being malicious or trying to hurt anyone.

I would hate to see anything bad happen to the guy as a result of this.

loJohn 1 point 4 days ago
That's been my take away as long as I've been hearing stories about him, which has been a while.

youb3tcha 7 points 4 days ago
I feel the same way. My heart aches a bit for glove guy. I feel like he's just a little eccentric and people might be over analyzing and sensationalizing some of his actions to fit a narrative.

I feel like this is how adults bully other adults, and turn them into something they weren't.

loJohn 9 points 4 days ago
I feel like this is how adults bully other adults, and turn them into something they weren't.

That's all this is. If it was such a traumatic event and they actually cared for the well being of others who might find themselves in this guys car they'd go to the cops, not News 95.7.

youb3tcha 4 points 4 days ago
Just because someone's different doesn't mean they're dangerous :/

loJohn 3 points 4 days ago
Yeah exactly, there's lot of strange people in this city that don't deserve to be publicly humiliated and shamed cause someone felt weirded out. Commit a crime, fine. Otherwise, you really don't have any business talking about a private citizen who isn't under investigation or being charged with anything on a public radio station.

youb3tcha 3 points 4 days ago
I feel the same about people who are accused of a crime, and are found to be innocent. Even after they're confirmed innocent, most people only remember they were accused of a crime.

I wrote a paper about this in Uni (Crim degree), the number of people who remembered the first person accused, as opposed to the guilty party... was startling.

UpvotingMyBoyfriend 7 points 4 days ago
I agree. Like some commenters in the other post were saying "If this were happening to women he'd be locked up!". If that's the case...then why hasn't anyone gone to the authorities? I can understand people who have encountered him feeling violated but at the end of the day, tough to read those comments knowing that people would rather go on a radio interview than contact the police.

I feel like glove guy has mental health issues. Let's not effectively encourage people to go after him. :(

youb3tcha 8 points 4 days ago
I agree. Whoa! We agree! First time for everything ;) I wonder if there's any correlation between the reactions of people in this case (go to media) and the gender being affected (male). Females tend to not report assaults or violations, or if they do, they want to keep it hush hush and just to the police. He may have mental health issues, or he just may be eccentric. People don't like what they don't understand. I've seen a lot of sensationalizing going on when describing encounters with him in the last few days. A few people's stories have changed to fit the narrative of him being a predator of some type.

UpvotingMyBoyfriend 3 points 4 days ago
Haha I don't take it personally if someone disagrees with me from time to time! :)

Yeah I can't help but think about the gender being a factor too. I feel like it would have become less of a sideshow if this happened to women, with women historically being shamed for having these things happen to them. It's interesting to think about. I certainly don't think he'd be locked up if he was doing this to women lol, don't people know how hard it is to get men locked up for assaults even if we do report it?

youb3tcha 4 points 4 days ago

THIS! So much of this. Look at the last few HUGE cases regarding assaults. The women get shamed, and it's up to them to provide extensive proof that they were assaulted. I always think of Lucy DeCouture, and how her life was turned upside down. Do I think Douchey-face McGee assaulted her? ABSOLUTELY. But she, like so many other abused women, didn't know how to react, and probably blamed herself for it. So in turn, she kept the relationship going.

UGH! I've gone on a tirade now.

newnews10 3 points 4 days ago*

LOL. What!! That's some serious mental acrobatics to come to that conclusion.

Read the verdict

godplusplus 3 points 4 days ago
I feel like glove guy has mental health issues.

I feel really bad about that too, and I wouldn't want glove guy to, I dunno, kill himself or something because of all this witch hunting and negativity.

Musekal 3 points 4 days ago
And he's definitely reading every comment in this thread.

youb3tcha 2 points 4 days ago
Of course he is... I would too, tbh.

DarrowS 2 points 4 days ago
Hey man what other talk shows should I be listening to in my drives? CBC is really just awful IMO

loJohn 1 point 4 days ago
Oh I listen to it too haha. It's just trash half the time and his guests and "experts" are always questionable as shit. It's entertaining at the very least but often so cringe worthy that I have to take a break for a couple of days.

CBC has gone to shit in the past 10 years I wont argue with that. I just listen to a lot of podcasts in the car these days.

DarrowS 2 points 4 days ago
Its always great to get political type on there that dance around questions and never actually answer anything. Its like why did you even come on if youre not willing to stick your neck out and answer outside of your pr team.

newnews10 2 points 4 days ago
half baked, literally half full of shit radio host

So very true. Sheldon MacLeod will stoop to any level to further his social justice crusade. News 95.7 is barely talk radio anymore. It's just Rick and Sheldon pushing their own personal agendas.

gloves_are_fucked[S] 2 points 4 days ago
I'm interested to hear that, I actually haven't ever listened to the show and did no research before accepting the interview. I'll be aware of "agenda pushing" and plan to be as impartial as possible, as I have with my reddit posts. I just want to tell the story because it's quirky and interesting, and spread the same message I did in my initial post.

gloves_are_fucked[S] -1 points 4 days ago*
For the record I have no intention of starting a witch hunt, I explicitly stated in my original post that I didn't want that to happen, and I stand by that. I have no intention of slandering this guy, I'm just telling my story as it happened. It sounds like many other people who met him have much worse things to say.

I have not contacted the police, and as far as I can tell he did nothing illegal to me. Please consider that I've had people saying "He did nothing wrong" in one ear, and people saying "He's gonna murder you and make gloves out of your skin" in the other ear. Today I was reached out to by a friend who knows of somebody that did suffer serious (legal) repercussions as a result of Glove Guy's habits and so I've decided I will be filing a police report. Nothing will come of it because it's just "suspicious activity" but it makes sense. I'd like to brush off my experience as a quirky and ridiculous story to tell, but from how this has blown up I've realised this is not just an isolated incident.

For those saying I'm milking 15 minutes of fame, please note that I was reached out to by the radio station, not the other way around. I did not "go to the media". I will be doing it anonymously and obviously made a throwaway to tell the story. I agreed to do the interview because the story is quirky and people like it, but more so because it's an important incident that needs coverage. It will be a short ten minute interview and again I have no intention of starting a witch hunt, I have no intention of slandering or embellishing my story in any way.

Once again, it's an important issue and when these types of incidents happen to men they typically get zero media coverage - I know it all seems like fun and games on reddit, but we're talking about serious stuff here. I think it's good that this is getting some attention because it can put a stop to similar incidents in the future, and it creates a dialogue which makes people think.

I posted this thread on reddit because people like the story and yes of course I want people to listen to the radio interview. Again, I don't want a witch hunt and strongly condemn any acts of vigilantism. I've said this from the start.

loJohn 4 points 4 days ago
Filing a police report should have been the first thing you did if you were really concerned, doing it now seems like a knee jerk reaction to try to make your cries for attention seem less obvious.

As for not wanting a witch hunt, pretty hard to believe that when you plan on doing the interview anyways. And yeah, must be nice to do this all anonymously without exposing yourself to any criticism whatsoever while you openly roast a guy on the radio. Brave guy you are.

gloves_are_fucked[S] 1 point 4 days ago
Please feel free to listen to the radio interview and realise all your assumptions about me are completely incorrect.

loJohn 1 point 3 days ago*
Yeah i already listened to it. Such a great guy you are only looking out for the publics best interest.

All my assumptions about you were bang on. For the third time now, If you were serious or actually cared about anything other than attention you would have gone to the cops and not a radio sation since this is such an "important" story.

gloves_are_fucked[S] 2 points 3 days ago

Yeah i already listened to it. Such a great guy you are only looking out for the publics best interest

😂 the interview hasn't even happened yet, so no, you didn't listen to it. Again your attacks on my character are founded on baseless assumptions about me so if you're interested to find out that I'm not the malicious evildoer that you've decided I am from a few reddit posts then listen to the interview. Otherwise feel free to keep telling me I'm the one that's in the wrong here, not the guy taking advantage of unsuspecting and vulnerable people to satisfy his fetish.

arcticpoppy 9 points 4 days ago
Soo this is starting to seem a tad attention-grabby.

You gonna make some 'Gloves Are Fucked' t-shirts next?

LeFreek 3 points 4 days ago
Bobbleheads

Eriskay 9 points 4 days ago
If it bothered you that much, go to the police. Not a radio station. This dude is clearly a bit different, but doesn't deserve this media blast IMO.

xcarex 9 points 4 days ago
It's never okay to force your fetish on unsuspecting people.

Eriskay 2 points 4 days ago
True, I agree. But like I said, there are better avenues to take in dealing with it. Public ridicule probably isn't one of them.

helixguy 6 points 4 days ago
And there's that attention...

newnews10 2 points 4 days ago*
Well I know who I consider is the shitty person in this drama now.

BeastCoastLifestyle 7 points 4 days ago
Way to turn this in to your own 15 minutes of fame.

LeFreek 1 point 2 days ago
Enjoy your shitty fifteen minutes.

gloves_are_fucked[S] 0 points 4 days ago
Apologies in advance for anyone who saw the title and thought it'd be an interview with the infamous Glove Guy himself

CMikeHunt 1 point 4 days ago
Thanks for clearing that up :) ---
GettinReddy -1 points 4 days ago
If i were the Glove guy in question, i would most definately be lawyering up, taking names and kicking ass in court. Especially after the Herald article. This witch hunt is an absolute slam dunk slander case .

UpvotingMyBoyfriend 7 points 4 days ago
Slam dunk? Who would be served? I don't think the Herald or any of his accusers online named him. I don't think "MJ" and "Glove Guy" are sufficient identifiers in a slander case. Probably not as I imagine the Herald, as much of a rag that it is, knows the ins and outs of defamation laws. They also have to be untrue statements and he's been pretty upfront about what he does.

nsrally 4 points 4 days ago
Though many, many people know (And knew even before this) exactly who is being referred to just by saying 'Glove Guy'. I'd say he was fairly clearly identified just because of his notoriety (as well as his own self promotion for his business over the last 10 years).

UpvotingMyBoyfriend 6 points 4 days ago
The statements still need to be untrue though to win a slander/libel case. I'm against the witch hunt but I don't think the public reaction to true events would work here (and from what I've seen from his own previous comments, he doesn't deny the events but is just against how people react to them).

GettinReddy -1 points 4 days ago
all well and good but when this all comes out in the wash, i will be happy i am not on the recieving end of the legal shitstorm he potentially could unleash. "Glove Guy" might not have to sell gloves after this is all over.

Musekal 5 points 4 days ago
You can't sue for hurt feelings and imagined damages in this country. And you can't sue people for your own actions. And there's enough people to corroborate the stories that he can't just claim they're not real. there are no legal ramifications here

Hali-For-Nia 5 points 4 days ago
People are only stating true facts about encounters they've had with him. That's like Will Sandeson trying to claim his reputation is being tainted by all this murder chatter.

Andes09 2 points 3 days ago
What about the accusations that he was arrested and charged for posession and distribution of child porn in the op thread. It clearly said he was a Child pornographer. A couple follow up posts dox'd him to fit the narrative that he was into kiddie porn. I reported the links and dox but was called out as the glove guy myself. The mods as far as I know still haven't removed the child porn allegations.

Lord_NukeDartmouth 1 point 3 days ago
The child porn thing was either him, or a case of same name.

CuileannDhu 1 point 2 days ago
I'm pretty sure that it's a case of two people having the same name. Glove guy is from a different community an hour away from where the kiddie porn guy is from.

Lord_NukeDartmouth 1 point 2 days ago
Interesting. Then yeah, we should stop calling him a Pedophile if it's not him.

GettinReddy 0 points 4 days ago
follow the trail of breadcrumbs through the four threads. He was outed hard.

Musekal 3 points 4 days ago
He outed himself by giving people his business cart.
